I love this kind of photograph, and yours is a really good example. Some viewers might complain about the 'wash-out' on the left, but it doesn't bother me. It's an excellent image to experiment with. For example,
I wonder if you have tried inverting the image to place the ball in the upper half? I'm not sure it would be 'better' but it's worth considering. It would place the wash-out on the right; as we read images from left to right (just like books), the wash-out would become less noticeable.
Another possible version would be a square crop.
