"Raindrops Keep Falling........."

By RonnieAG
Hybrid tea rose "National Trust" photographed in situ on the bush during a lull in yesterday's rain.
The background was untidy and the leaves on this bush were badly blighted with black spot, one of the few of our bushes so affected this year.
So the background had to go........hope the result still appeals.

Details: see EXIF.......... (NB. I always find these red roses difficult to capture, but after trying a variety of settings, I find reducing the Exposure Compensation to -2.00 seems to work well, allowing colour and textures to be recorded accurately)

My thanks to all who CandC'd on "The First Sweet Peas" and my special thanks to Graham {digital_boi}, Christopher {snag}, Robert {cabbie} and Jeannette {Starjadiz} for their User Awards...........4 for one image, a record for any of my shots. Thank you all so much.

Ronnie.

You've shown us shots of this rose before Ronnie and it's a real beauty. Superb colour rendition, and those raindrops to add sparkle. Marvellous.

Something to be said for rain when you get a cracking shot like this, Ronnie! Glorious colour and light and the alteration to the bg has really thrown the Rose details forward perfectly.

You see rain has more than one good purpose Ronnie, waters the flowers naturally and gives photographers these little jewels od water to adorn a wonderful rose. The setting is quite perfect, deserves a place in the arcade. Wink

Doing away with the bg, (even if it had been OK) serves to focus our attention on the perfect details of the rose and the almost ice-like water droplets, Ronnie. A quality shot indeed.

In those circumstances, getting rid of the background was the only thing to do, and you have presented this wonderful rose beautifully.

Morning Ronnie.

A great image of this rose and you have removed the background very well, something I hate doing. I agree about capturing reds. They often seem to blow out, If you shoot RAW it helps as the detail is usually still there, The camera LCD shows Jpeg IQ and isn't THAT accurate. The histogram being based on a generated Jpeg means that it can be influenced by things like contrast, saturation, picture styles, and the color space that has been set in-camera for Jpegs (sRGB or AdobeRGB).

In fact, the red channel (in the raw data) rarely clips on a typical DSLR with a normal daylight exposure, because the red sensitivity is very low (about 1.5 stops darker than green). If one was to reduce exposure till the red histogram no longer showed clipping, then the actual raw red channel would be very underexposed with a poor SNR. Result: noisy red flowers!

Funny you should say that, Ronnie, I find photographing and processing poppies difficult. My Coming in to land to ages to get something like. If I desaturated the colours it brought back detail in the petals, but the colours looked wishy-washy. Increasing the saturation lost detail in the petals! Sad So, well done here, in getting this beautifully captured and presented, and like the raindrops, too, which enhance an already super image Smile
