Well captured in the rain Ron and I like the tail diagonal going into the corner. A superb eye but find the plumage detail just a very little soft but brought out from sharpening, not sure if this is from the crop or a high ISO, but suspect ISO as there are evident signs of noise in the bg. Also the bg being so close to the Goldy has made it difficult to isolated the bird and makes it busy. I know you will disagree with me but as we always discuss its never easy to get close to these
Still though I like the image alot. Not meant as criticism, just as I see it.

Hello Ron, great shot in tough conditions, love the detail and colours , the raindrops add to the image. It must feel good to adapt to what the elements throw at you, I'm slowly finding my way, but I will get there.

Hi Ron, It looks like the weather condition were not in your favour here. A good comp and you did so well to get one (still on my wish list). Exp looks good to prevent OS on the whites but the detail on this occasion is not as good as you usually get, most likely down to a high ISO or a heavy crop. Having said that I do like the shot despite the small points raised. I always admire your work and hope my comment doesn't offend in any way,

Rain or not a beauty to have captured, and the Goldfinch has really stood out here

This is another excellent capture. I really like shots which give an idea of the habitat - clean backgrounds to animal or bird captures are, for me, a bit like studio shots of people and slightly contrived, although the focussed attention on the bird or animal is often vastly improved. Wild captures do have problems though, with background 'interfering' and I agree with Richards comments above about this. Personally I sometimes spend a little time softening a background in ps to make it less obtrusive if I think the shot is worth it. A
As I have Goldfinches in my back garden, I get a lot of pictures of them, as most members well know, they will also know that 8 times out of 10, there isn't as much detail in the bird as there could/should be. Goldfinches are a hard bird to get real detail in them, the same as Barn and Tawny Owls. I don't think it is anything to do with the ISO or crop, just the fact that the bird, generally, doesnt give as much detail as other birds, such as, the Blue Tit.

Ron, I do like the image, but maybe a little NR on the B/G would make it slightly better, or removing the branches. Don't wish to make any disturbance. Just a point of view.
Ron, a really superb, very natural shot of one of these delightful but difficult to capture birds. The colour is perfect and the eye so sharp. I love the background. Another beauty.

I take on board the various comments on this one Ron and can see where people are coming from, but still think this is a beautiful capture with fine plumage tones and patterning. We can't always choose the background as these little devils have a mind of their own!

A fine shot of this handsome little bird, most impressive given that it was taken in adverse weather conditions
Great capture excellent detail.

It's a beautiful capture Ron, i have these very close to my window but they do not give up much detail and i have to shoot into the sun with to much back light so i lose more detail. Gary

Sometimes you get what you get...a natural or "busy" background is what we have here, and for me it doesn't detract from the bird at all - just my opinion. Luke makes a good point on the feather detail of the bird but there is enough here for me...good one Ron.
