Rainy day

By dudler
Rainy days don't necessarily get you down...

Thank you to Ollie (bliba) for making this picture possible: it utilises a little Tokina adaptor that he gave me on the front of a Lensbaby Composer fitted with a Double Glass lens to allow an extreme closeup. Aperture was f/4.

I used the camera's cleverest metering mode - but my blog today is about the metering mode guaranteed to cause you problems: spot.

My advice on spot metering? Don't use it, unless you know the chapter headings of Michael Freeman's book on exposure off by heart, and can explain the Zone System to an inquisitive fifteen year old geek.

Sometimes this is how I see the world first thing in the morning.
Nice semi abstract image John.

I wonder if I would love a Lensbaby and at the same time being discombobulated by it..! 👀😆😂👀

Love the shot.
As for spot metering ............... my cameras are seldom taken off it.

This looks like it's taken through a rain covered window.
No real focus but it is effective in it's own right.

Lovely effect..
I often use spot metering, particularly for portraits.
Sometimes if I am having problems it will be because I am on spot.....sometimes because I am not...

A good abstract, where you can still discern, what is being photographed. Love the soft colours produced. Must get myself a lensbaby? Mind you, probably better mastering what I have already!

An effect akin to awakening slowly form a vivid dream.

I use spot metering very often - but I do have the luxury of the WYSIWYG electronic viewfinder.

I know you love Lensbaby lenses, John...and this one really works wonderfully with the theme and subject of your photo. It is lovely, and gives the feel of a rainy day. I do, sometimes, use spot metering...when I want to control exposure in reference to a one, often small, element of the photo.

And, thank you for your UA yesterday for my family swimming and throwing photos.

Peter
