sorry can no do - only 20 miles to catch that leading group of five just five minutes ahead...
Scene: just another hour on the road having already ridden five and a half hours in Yorkshire in the ultimate joy of the County's best downpour weather...
none ever did catch up with the breakaway which was down to three at the finishing line...
this year for the first time ever, a Dane has won the World Road Race Championships this year - Mads Pedersen is World Champion!

since enjoying Le Grand Depart of this year's Tour de France in Brussels, think I shall be turning my back on the Premiership (money grabbing and too commercial) and indulge in the the grittiness of the cycling game instead...

After spending the morning in the rain, photographing a local athletics event, I was pleased to watch this on telly in the warmth of our living room. It was certainly gritty!

Doesn't sound a lot, Richard, a mile every four minutes but at the speeds these lads travel at, especially when working together, the peloton didn't have a hope of catching them.
These lads are fit, two to three weeks on the road, in all terrains and weathers. suffering serious injury and even death on occasion, at every pedal stroke. It has the lot!

I love the colour, the composition, the atmosphere, the expressions, the timing of this terrific picture. The intrusive mobile line-up on the right is suitably subservient: while they were all taking the same picture as each other you saw something different - a very satisfying result in that sense too.

Quote:the grittiness of the cycling game

I abandoned all other sports years ago (though boxing, football, rugby and tennis never ever featured on my radar screen); this is the only one that remains and I'm proud of it.

I like this floridly technicolour interpretation of a grey, drab and cold day of cycling.
