Ready, aim…fire!

By TrevBatWCC
Still at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds on May Day, just outside the main entrance there was some WW2 memorabilia on display, mainly of the Russian army, with people in uniform of Russian and US armies. On the list of events there was to be a firing of guns outdoors so when the time came I went outside to get some shots (no pun intended!). Before the firing it was explained to us about the type of guns being used, and we were told this would be very loud and we may want to "put our fingers in our ears" (the people firing were lucky to have ear-plugs). Now, if you also want to take photographs, this is of course impossible without at least three hands, two for the ears and one the camera! They weren't kidding, either, and I pity anyone living in the nearby apartments who didn't know what was happening. You often see in films flames coming out of the barrels of machine guns and I'd always thought this was for effect, but it really does happen - it was a pity I couldn't time it right to capture the flames too! Wink

Good set. As a postscript, I saw a technically impressive exhibition last year of photographs of guns firing, obviously set up as long exposures in a darkened room, catching that burst of flame. I think it was at the DLI Museum Gallery, will try to trace details.

Yes, a good set, Trev.
I wonder if the C2 shutter setting on your D7100 would have caught the flames? The sound damping on the shutter/mirror system is much improved so you would still have heard the guns firing Grin

Good set Trev.
But it would have spoiled the film a bit if John Wayne
stopped to put in ear plugs before taking out that Jap
machine gun nest !!

Great images Trev. In V5 it's a little funny seeing the b/g buildings and brick floor.
