Taken on Sunday afternoon, just as the last light was fading.

These Roman ruins lie within Reculver Country Park. Historians believe that Reculver was most likely one of the places the Roman army landed in A.D. 43. The orginal settlement has been lost largely to coastal erosion but the existing fort of Regulbium was built in the 3rd century by Carausis probably as a defence against pirates. Initially it was garrisoned by the first cohort of Baetasians transferred from Cumbria. It later became part of the chain of Roman defences known as the forts of the Saxon shore.

Four centuries later, the Saxons built the Church of St. Mary within the walls of the fort but unfortunately this crumbled in 1809. The twin Reculver Towers were rebuilt in twelth century style by the maritime government and were also intended to aid navigation.

Thanks for your time, as always your comments/thoughts are very welcome.

A very Happy New Year to all
Regards - Sarah x

So, Sarah, are you putting your D300 through the paces? This shot here is a beauty and dare I say, one of your best! I love the contrasts between the sky, grass, and ruins of the buildings and you have done a fine job with the exposure. What really makes this one special is the beautiful light falling upon the stonework and it giving this image a three dimensional effect. Well done!

Happy New Year

Thanks to you all for your time, comments and clicks.

Nigel - yes this is The Kentish Flats wind farm, off of Herne Bay
The wind farm comprises 30 efficient wind turbines capable of producing up to 3 MW of electricity each, so that the total output of the wind farm could be up to 90 MW.
The offshore wind farm was the largest wind turbine so far installed in the UK.

Hope you all enjoyed New Years Day.

A fabulous shot, or should that be "marvellous". The detail, colours and definition are stunning, I particularly like the mood created by your exposure and position. Maybe it's the new D300 camera, but would rate this as one of your best.

Look forward to seeing it in your book!
Happy New Year.

Very nice Sezzy, great info as usual - i like this place but it can be very harsh at times.

Pete, Robert, Mark, Mike, Kin and Trev, thank you so much for your time and comments.

Trev - to be honest I haven't really been able to use the new cam and lens much since xmas Sad been really busy over the hols but the Reculver shots do seem a little soft to me, but then they are in RAW and I expect to fine tune them. However, time will tell and I can't wait to get out and about soon to really give the lens a test. As for the D300 - awesome camera Smile

With the new camera, I bet this looks great at full size! I like the contrast of the new and old towers with that bit of low light on them. If you move to the left a bit, can you get more seperation between the two middle towers in front and back? Excellent story of course. You're off to a great start to the new year.
