Red-banded Hairstreak
Calycopis cecrops 3/4 -1 inch (19-25mm)

Rarely seen, but when found the Red-banded hairstreak can be seen in the mid Atlantic states especially at dusk, This butterfly is especially fond of sumac.

Yet another great butterfly from you, Jenn. I have hardly seen a butterfly where we are all summer, yet they seem to be plentiful in the south of the UK.
