Red Underwing Moth

By johnwnjr
Red Underwing Moth (Catocala nupta) found fluttering in my porch against a glass window on 17th August, 2019. They apparently are usually seen in August but fly at night and rest by day. Seen in England, but not in Scotland or Ireland according to The Oxford Book of Insects by John Burton. I photographed it and then helped it on its way! Never seen one before. It is one of the largest British Moths about 3 inches across.
