Redcar rocks

By oldgreyheron
Taken yesterday with a clear blue sky and receding tide, the rocks running out into the sea become visible. These rocky layers are known locally as scars and this part of the beach is a site of special scientific interest.

1/125s f8 ISO 100 worth viewing large I believe!

Thanks for pausing here - if you have a few words to say about this or any other of my images I'd be delighted to hear from you.

Most interesting, Mike both the photo and the information. I always thought 'scar' was a NE word for outcrop or maybe rock stratum. Or maybe I have just agreed with myself.

Interesting info, as well as a beautiful shot. I've looked at these layers, which crop up at various points on the coast, but didn't know the name.
This needs to be viewed large, for terrific detail, but there's an odd blob at the top just inside the frame - is this a gull in flight?

Moira - in my enthusiasm I missed it - yes it is a gull - there were lots around! I have failed dismally to find a geological description of the scars - if anyone knows anything I'd be delighted to hear...

Nice lines and depth, Mike. Well taken. You'd need a tripod for that sunrise, you know!

Leigh, a decent tripod's on the Christmas list along with a couple of lenses, better software, filters, new camera bag... I think I may have to be a little patient!
