Relics of the Famines

By Joline
This is getting nearer to my ancestral home, county Clare. My ancestors came to Canada during the 18th century as did many other Catholics, leaving behind farms such as this. It was interesting, and very touching, to see the area that I have heard about for so long. It was like I was coming back to a place I'd never been.

Thank you so much for your interest in the quilt show images. It is such a great experience to see and learn from these amazing fabric artists.

This is a very fine set , wonderful views of these humble dwellings. Made me feel a little home sick too. My parents came from Sligo.
Just delightful shots.

A shame to see these farm buildings go to rack and ruin, Joline, but you have captured them very well. Carol

There was a great deal of injustice and suffering all those years ago and the people who had a chance to make a new life were the lucky ones. Another set of good images which gives one a lot to think about,

Your ancestors were probably very happy there amidst all the lovely scenery.
Wonderful that you visited your ancestral county.
We have a daughter called Clare named because my husband played golf there in his youth.

The famine of 1740..."The year of the slaughter"... a terrible period in Irish history, Joline.
Failed harvests because of freak weather to blame.
