Remains of the Day

By HuddersfieldHil
Hello everone
Thank you for the c and c's on my last upload much appreciated. I have been a bit tied up last couple of days but would like your opinion on my most recent attempt. I have tried to use photoshop to edit my background and I used picasa to put in the border for v2 V1 is the original untouched in any way. I have not changed any contrast or anything else. Thanks for looking and have a good day.Smile

Superb image in V2 Hilary. Why do you switch to Picasa to add your border - tis like two easy steps in Photoshop!? Smile

Nice work, Hilary.
Now you have successfully removed the background of an image.
In V1, showing the background, it looks like the petal has fallen off the fading rose and there is a connection because the rose and the petal are lying on the same background. It tells a story.
However, in V2, the connection is lost because of the removal of the background. The petal looks odd being separated from the rose. Also the separate petal is a lot brighter than the rose and this is another thing that spoils the connection. The petal looks to be in very good condition compared to the petals remaining on the rose.
Sorry, you wanted an opinion on the work you have done, and I have deviated.
The work is fine, perhaps the subject isn't ideal.
When you have separate pieces like this, and a plain black background, you can easily select one part, like the petal, and place it elsewhere with a simple copy and paste operation, moving it and turning it around until you feel happy with the new composition, even overlapping it with the rose. At the same time, whilst you have the petal selected, you could darken it a little to conform with the darkness of the rose itself.
Maybe I'm trying to show you how to run before you can walk.
Pamela.

I think V2 is much better and nicely presented, Hilary.

Well done for trying. I do, however, agree with Pamela regarding version 2. But that is how you learn; there are a lot of very experienced folk on ePz who can offer some very sound advice.
