Return to Crow Wood

By peterkin
When I was a small child nearly sixty years ago, the view from my bedroom was a vista of open fields with Crow Wood in the near distance. Very early on Summer mornings there would be a cacophony of cawing as the hundreds of crows which lived there took to the air in a great armada circling the wood a couple of times before heading South to their feeding grounds a few miles away. At dusk, less vocal now, they would return to Crow Wood, just a few at first followed by the main air armada, and then the aged stragglers.

Many of the fields are now covered in houses, but Crow Wood is still there and though I now live some way off, my present house is on the flight path of the crows which must be the progeny several times over of the birds I saw when I was a child.

I now know that they are rooks, not crows and in a fit of nostalgia Iíve been over to Crow Wood at dusk these past couple of evenings to photograph their return. Unfortunately, without success yet, so Iíve made a composite image of Crow Wood and the returning rooks. Thanks for taking a peek.

Ha ha. I've just noticed, one year later, that it shows Fujifilm Finepix E500 for the camera used. Never heard of one of them. Don't know how that happened. Obviously, I used an Olympus E500.
