Rhodes harbor

This is the entrance of Rhodes harbor where as you can see are standing the two famous deers of Rhodes. The story says that on these spesific places where standing the feet of Colossos of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, which had been destroyed by a huge earthquake in 226 b.c. The statue was 33m in height and it was made by cooper. The huge amount of cooper that was invested by Rhodians and the sculptor, Haris from Lindos, to built this magnificent statue of Greek civilization, after the downfall of Colossos, was sold by Saracens that had concured the town, in the year 656, in a "jewish merchant from Edessa", who had used 900 camels in order to carry it, so to be sold again and transformed finally to weapons...
