This is the ornamental flowering currant, a vigorous compact shrub that drips with pendant clusters of deep cerise tubular flowers that are later followed by black berries.
There are male and female plants and the males have the biggest flowers, but the females produce the berries.
Its flowers appear before its leaves.
When the leaves are young in spring, they have a strong resinous scent.
Ribes gives its name to the popular blackcurrant cordial Ribena.
Thanks to all who took the time to look, vote, award and comment on my Cinnabar Moth Caterpillars.
