Rice pickers

By Stevetheroofer
The combine harvester couldn't get on the field because of a recent rainfall so the farmer had no choice but to harvest by hand. He told me he would be making a huge loss this year. Sadly suicide rates in Sri Lanka are very high due to instances like this.A local farmer had recently ended it all. I earn more in a week than most of the farmers were earning in a year, I saw a different side to their laid back lifestyle after talking with the farmer and his friendly workers.
Hard working people living on the edge of poverty.

Wonderful composition Steve! Everyone looks happy having their photo taken except for the person in the middle, they look like they're saying "What are you doing taking my photo?!!!" GrinGrinSadGrinGrin

A splendid image which works really well in mono, but sad to hear of their worries.

Fabulous photo journalistic style... it's only when we get close to other cultures that we can appreciate all we have 😀

Just read your sad caption - great you took the time to speak with them to be able to understand their reality.

And I'm glad you got back safely Smile
