Hi folks, and a Happy New Year to you all.Been a hellish couple of weeks for me but I can't complain too much as I know there are a few of you here in a worse state then me.Especially since my troubles have been ''self inflicted'',so you will pardon me if I am still on my anti-smoking kick with my upload !! It looks like these wonderful doctors and nurses have finally cracked my breathing difficulties.I am on three inhalers a day and a couple of sessions a day breathing through a nebuliser. It opens up my lungs and keeps me functioning normally for the rest of the day.My mobility is a bit limited however,as a simple task of going from the living room into the kitchen to make a cup of coffee can leave me a bit breathless. My wife told the doctors that this is not a problem,as after 37 years of marriage she can only recall a handful of times I did this anyway !! The doctor asked me what I do by way of some exercise. He was not too pleased when I told him I walk to my back door and take in some fresh air when I am having a fag !! The nurse who took my blood pressure told me it was too high.I told her it was her fault and next time she should wear a bigger size uniform so it did not grip her chest so tightly !! And why on earth do you get woken up in hospital at 6.00 am when they do not serve breakfast until 8.00 am ? And why is the breakfast so rubbish and what is wrong with a nice greasy fry up that I am used too !!Anyway, enough of my moanings for now.It will probably be another week before I can settle down and get back to commenting on all your wonderful images. My New Year resolution is to ACTUALLY look at your images this time and give them a good study.Although if they have sheep in them,I will probably fall asleep !!
So see you all soon and take care.I know I will be taking care of myself now !!

Mick, I am ashamed of you! A real chap doesn't even know where the kitchen is, let alone know what utensils to use if you finally get in there.Grin
Are you a chap or not?
Good to see they haven't operated away your humour, and are you sure it was only the nurse's uniform that was gripping her chest tightly?Wink
All the very best mate, and remember a chap has to do what a chap has to do.

What a surprise at a begining of a New Year Mick,to see that you are feeling much better now,but do take care and do as your told,(they are the expert)and take it verry easy.Great image Mick, but the message on them is clear enough to every one,I hope you will not have any more.when you feel you would like one,go out and have some fresh air it's much better and HEALTHIER for you.Wink
Carry on with the good work Mick, I quit in 1986 and invested the money it freed up in some photography equipment and started to walk regularly,
Best Wishes,

Happy new year mick .Are you featured in the Fokkers Mag.Good to hear from you, take care and start smoking tipped ciggies instead of the Capstan full strength. Are you still managing to light them or does Jan give you a hand.I bet she has had a wonderful Christmas looking after you.
Give my regards to Big Aggie when you see her and if she is not happy with your performance give me a shout and I will act as a temporary stand in for you.
I have a friend who just will not give up smoking. I was raguing the toss with him when he reminded me that his mother in law smoked for 90 years and it hadn't affected her But Alan i said She had her legs amptutated because of smoking y..yes he said apart from that.

Here's a sober message if ever I saw one Mick, but a true one, and I'm glad you still have your sense of humour after your fright. I'm glad to see you uploading again, and look forward to the next. Please take care and I think Malc's summed it up: 'a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.'

Glad to see you back, Mick. May you have a good year in 2013, finish getting the fags out of your system and do what Uncle Danny says. Meanwhile keep up the humour, drop in and see us whenever you can and don't give the nurses too much of a hard time . . .

I gave up my 40+ a day habit in 1977 - I simply stopped, just like that - and have never regretted it, apart from the four stone I added very soon afterwards; now the doc says I have to lose some of that as well, but I do walk whenever I can.

All the very best

Good on you Mick, great write up mate and I'm glad to say that I've never Smoked in my LIFE! But the reason for that was mainly because I could see what it was doing to my Father. He was a chain Smoker who rolled His own, and to cut a long Story short, He eventually lost both His Legs and Died just before His 65th Birthday, so didn't even get to draw His pension, and all because of Smoking. Why don't they simply put on the Packet, 'Smoking destroys Lives', as it is not the person who dies of Smoking that has to suffer for Years on end. Sorry, i'll get off my Soap Box now Mick Smile
O yes, and no one can tell me that the Government want people to stop Smoking, just think of the Tax they would lose if everyone stopped Tomorrow.

Hey Mick, didn't even know you were ill. Gonna take a long time till this is sorted. Well no lectures from me, but now done 5 months without the fags. But my sympathies lie with those poor nurses (well, have to side with my own kind TongueGrin). Have had many a patient like you - usually one of the most unwell folk in the place, but struggling to keep up your own and everyone else's spirits. Oh and why do they wake you up at 6 - because we can GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin.
Anyway, hope things start to turn around for you, take good care of yourself.
I do like that chap on the magazine though Grin.

just think of the bonfire you'll have this year setting light to all those unused fags!!! perhaps you could give them to charity!!!!WinkGrin

I must say it's amazing what a short sharp shock can do for some ways I'm lucky because they put me straight on blood pressure tablets...but have to say that simple walking is good for all parts of the body.

Stay well...Smile

Welcome back Mick and Happy New Year to a new you - hopefully. I'm very pleased to hear that you plan to take better care of yourself. And you go right ahead and spout the message about the evils of smoking.

I recently lost a friend to COPD, my father-in-law died of emphysema, and my uncle has COPD and is now on oxygen constantly.

I hope that my years of smoking (I quit in 1980) never come back to haunt me.

Continue to take care of yourself,

Your sense of humor is very engaging Smile

A very warm welcome back Mick, and very sorry to hear of your being so unwell, but at least your humour is intact as I am sure you will be to very soon ... I only quit 18 months ago, and have to say I only wish I had done it sooner, but the e-cigs were the best aid to quitting ... nuff said.

I think your image is perfect so I am going to show it to hubby and hope it has the desired effect - Nooooo! Not to kill him -just to get him to give up as well WinkGrin Grin Grin - Wishing you very very Well and a Happy Healthy 2013 ... Carol Grin

Here I sit coughing and wheezing too. When my breathing gets bad I not only use my inhalers, but also a humidifier - steam works a treat as long as you don't mind the walls and windows streaming with water. I was intubated in 2004 when my lungs filled up with fluid, so I can sympathise with how hard it is to just breath Mick. I've never been a smoker and if I had have been I probably would not have pulled through. So keep up the good work and hopefully you will have better health in 2013 as a result of your cutting out cigarettes - and maybe you can save the money for a holiday somewhere south where its warmer WinkWinkWink

What a shame Mick to find you in such a state! But I know the problems you are in - and if it is kind of consolation - my brother had the same problems, and never ever in his life smoked a single cigarette. But now you have to take care of yourself - what ever caused it, this is no matter to take it easy. Please, take care of yourself!
