Road to Skippers Canyon - 4

By barryyoungnz
Otago, South Is. New Zealand. This area has undergone several uplifts over millions of years, hence the valley-within-a-valley appearance. The entire Southern Alp range is on a major fault line. The meandering river produces large flat plains either side, then when the whole area is uplifted the process begins again. While there was some excavation, the dominant landscape form was produced naturally.

This landscape is not natural, much modified by early settlers searching for gold, stunning by the sheer amount of work that was expended here. Neat picture, time to return to this place, thanks for posting.
Nigel.
