Austria is considered exemplary in the fight against Covid-19, and Sebastian Kurz knows how to use this: He leads the country with unwavering determination - and brilliant self-public relations.
Kurz is reaching similar heights, at least in the polls; his ÖVP is currently around 45 percent. To ensure that the effect continues after the crisis, Kurz is trying to give his commitment a party political colour: When he conjured up the "Team Austria" in the early days of the initial restrictions, he underlined this in the social media not with red-white-red, but in the turquoise of his ÖVP. The reputation of not reacting particularly comfortably to dissenting opinions was acquired by Kurz during his first term of office, and the case of Martin Sprenger confirms this: the public health expert from the expert staff of Health Minister Anschober had described the closing of parks as "incomprehensible". Fortunately, Kurz told the physician via the media that he did not listen "to the wrong experts". Two days later, Sprenger withdrew from the Corona Task Force, officially at his own request.
