Robot Rampage!

By Blinky
Bit of a silly one, this! May need a little explanation...

I was doing a photo shoot with my friend's band this weekend. They're called Alto 45 - a sort of quirky-yet-slightly-melancholic electro-indie-pop band (if you know Hot Chip, particularly their first album, then you're in the right ballpark) - the sort that wear lab coats on stage and count a stylophone and a theramin on their equipment list.

Their bassist Steve (on the right) had bought this toy robot (their unofficial mascot) off ebay and customised it with stickers and random glued-on electronic components. While we had it with us, I thought we could do a quick comp of the band running away from the robot (a la virtually every distaster / sci-fi B-movie you've ever seen). I'll upload the component shots as before/after versions.

I've added quite a few filters and overlays to try and make this gel together. The backgrounds are a couple of random shots of flats in Norwich that I had from a while back. The fire and smoke, I have to admit, are not mine - might have been a little hazardous getting them myself - I got a random pic of some firefighters in action off t'internet (apologies to whoever may own the copyright).

Anyway, thanks for looking - hope you like it!

Thanks Lucy. It was a lot of fun, though it was bloomin' cold on Saturday morning when we were out shooting!

Oh my, this is nicely done - I've never even thought of trying this kind of image merging - yet.
Very nice work, down to the glowing red of the robot's "eyes". Leaving the orange peel on the ground was a nice touch too.

Thanks very much Anne. I'd forgotten about the orange peel - I certainly hadn't made a conscious decision to leave it in! Fans of discarded foodstuffs may also be interested to know that's a loaf of bread in the white plastic bag at the far end of the wall. Not ours, I hasten to add - I think someone had a (rather un-glamorous) picnic the previous evening!

Thanks Emma! I certainly had "Intergalactic" somewhere in the back of my mind when we thought this up. You can find alto45 on myspace if you're having a look (you'll find this pic there already).
