Rosemarie's Artwork

By brian1208
A friend of mine is a professional Ceramicist and asked me to shoot some artwork for her new portfolio. This piece presented a real challenge as its a wall hanging comprising both ceramic and wood with a range of different textures and surface finishes.

I shot using a single soft box + reflector and this one had the softbox aiming at a white ceiling to spread the light even more softly, with a touch of reflected light coming in from the right side.

She went away with a CD of images and said that she was very happy with the results, I wondered what you thought of the lighting?

I'm certainly no expert on this but to my uneducated eye, this looks pretty good.
I can certainly see why your friend went away happy if the images are all like this.
The very few shadows are barely distinguishable; I was looking for them, no-one else is likely to and the highlights are bright enough to lift the raised areas suficiently to give us a feeling of depth and dimension yet aren't so bright as to be intrusive.
That use of light along with the textures and colours, there are more than just blue, all work together to produce what I consider to be a first class image.

Fantastic - an image I would happily give wall space to.

thank you for your positive reactions to this lighting. The colour matching was an essential part of the process (but not observable here of course) as previous attempts by others had not managed to recreate the colour and texture of her pieces.

It was an interesting exercise whih added another bit of knowledge

This is a fine record image. without the original object, direct comparison is not easy, but I bet i know exactly what it looks like from your image. Could not improve on lighting - no flare, no hot spots. First rate.

This is quite superb and deserves all the comments above. I did wonder though if it could stand a touch more light and contrast so I have offered a mod to that effect.
I hope you approve but great work nevertheless.
