Roughcastle Tunnel

By AllistairK
We are looking south along the Union Canal from the northern end of the Roughcastle Tunnel, the upper entrance to the gondolas of the Falkirk Wheel featured yesterday is approximately 100 metres behind me. At the far end of the 175m tunnel the canal turns a sharp left and continues to Edinburgh. The tunnel passes underneath the Antonine Wall and, at the far end, is also just a few metres below the main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line. The tunnel opened in 2002 and during construction the rail track was lifted after the last train passed each night. Construction continued through the night before it had to be re-laid in time for the first morning train approximately 6 hours later. Not too much post processing, the colour of the lighting can change quite frequently.

Many thanks for all views, comments, and kind UAs for yesterdays Circle Of Light. Much appreciated. Will post a couple of images of the overall Falkirk Wheel structure next.

Stay safe.

A very interesting info' on the image. I have visited the Falkirk Wheel a few times but never knew this, so thanks. A super image of the tunnel, and the blue lighting seems to suit it.
