Rumble, Rattle, Screech; Junee, New South Wales

By BobinAus
A long freight train headed by three locomotives leaves the small town of Junee located on the south-western slopes of New South Wales. Decades ago, in the steam era, Junee was a major hail hub and maintenance yard. Now all that remains of that activity is an old roundhouse that houses an interesting rail museum.

Thanks very much for your comment, Peter. I don't use a long lens all that often but I always carry one, just in case. Cheers, Bob

Thanks very much for your comment, Tom. A very colourful train indeed. The blooming canola was a bonus! Cheers, Bob

As others have said, that's a very colourful train, Bob, far more so than ours tend to be. I hadn't heard the name, canola, before, but it turns out to be a variety of rapeseed, which is what I thought it was and is generally referred to in the UK. Lots of interest in this shot.

Thanks very much Allan. I was lucky to encounter this particular train, each locomotive in different livery hauling a long load of brightly coloured shipping containers. Many of our trains are much duller affairs, a dreary string of bland hopper wagons or tankers. The word "canola" is actually a Canadian marketing term (like 'kiwifruit' for Chinese gooseberry). I once told Walt Knox that I'd use proper name i.e. rapeseed instead. But I forgot - obviously! Blush
