I agree that the shadows are missing a bit of detail: my mod used Curves to hold highlight detail and brighten them, beginning with the 'as shot' version. However, the result looks very grey... I may have a second go at it, using a more-familiar route!
The precise point ot crop is always a matter for debate: I opted for including the base of the tree on the left, and losing the distant trees at the top, rather than water and rock at the bottom.
This has worked rather well, though I am getting the feeling that your camera tends towards underexposure for some reason. I wonder if others commenting regularly get the same impression?
