Sabrinas Retirement

By Johnnybairdphotography
The old fishing vessel "Sabrina" rests out her remaining days on the Southern banks of Mulroy Bay, County Donegal. It was a dull and rainy day, and I had opted to shoot a few detailed shots of the neighbouring wreck, Mary Buchan, not really planning to photograph Sabrina on this occasion. With some time to spare I took a shot at Sabrina, choosing a long exposure of 4 minutes in order to wipe out most of the lifeless clouds. Often long exposures are used to provide a sense of the passing of time - I think it is fitting here with time passing Sabrina by as she sits silently on the banks of the Bay, never to voyage again. Using the Lee Big Stopper tends to leave a blue colour cast, despite adjusting White Balance in camera (obviously not enough on this occasion!) Rather than correct the white balance during editing, I decided to just bring down the blue saturation and leave some of the cool cast to complement the red of the wreck.
