Sailing on the Chesapeake #2

When Rachel Carson wrote Silent Spring, raptors here such as bald eagles and ospreys were seriously endangered due to the use of DDT....which weakened their eggs....since then, on the Chesapeake both have made a concerted come-back. Sailing on the Eastern Shore, we often see bald eagles....and on navigational markers all over the Bay we see osprey nests-everywhere. And many have become accustomed to sailboats passing them pretty close. Sailing in late spring...we saw many nesting pairs....Mr and Mrs Osprey.

Always find it amazing where they will nest Peter ….one year they nested high atop a floodlight stand at our baseball stadium …loved seeing these!

Good to hear that they are doing well, lovely to see Peter and excellent images. We have many nesting Osprey here in Cumbria, we have watched them make a comeback over the last 20 years.
