Salvia Hot Lips

By JuBarney
A couple of Salvia bushes are still covered in flowers which seems a bit out of season, especially considering the colour, but nice to see something bright in the garden - and the bumble bees were out yesterday. (It has been so hard to get much definition in the reds; any suggestions?)

It looks as though we are going to have a lovely day after the frost has gone so I hope it is nice with you.

Mine are still flowering, too, Ju. I just checked back on my pictures of them and see that I used negative exposure opmpensation, which reduced the glare of the white part and prevented the red part from "blooming". Not an easy combination, though. It's one of those that you have to experiment with and see what works best. I don't remember whether or not I used my polarizing filter, and that doesn't show on the exif data, but it's quite possible that I did. I usually underexpose for reds anyway.
Another thing. Take a look at your camera settings and see what the saturation setting is. Set it to low.

These are such pretty flowers Ju, I have seen these, they are so tiny GrinGrinGrin

Did you have the camera on 'landscape' mode or maybe 'portrait' mode (picture style) I set mine to neutral or faithful or even standard for flowers. If you were to use landscape (or portrait) by mistake the colours are far too over bright and saturated.
I cant tell from the exif if you have those on your camera. I would also try spot metering too Ju Smile

A lovely bright image before the winter gloom descends. I would, if using Photoshop, lower the saturation and perhaps also using the dehaze option.

Lovley set, Ju 👍 I always find that reproducing reds they always seem to lack detail, but reducing saturation brings it back, but then they don't look as strong 😬
