Scarlet

By accipiter
Hi. I am late today due to work commitment - what a dreadful state of affairs!
I have put on these pictures of a flower that actually grows like a weed in all the perimeters of cultivated and semi cultivated fields in Zimbabwe, sometimes so thick it is almost impossible to get through it. The plants are up to 2 metres high and are covered in scarlet blooms about 8 cms. across. I don't know what the botanical name is but locally they are usually called 'Mexican Marigold' although I have heard the term 'Japanese Sunflower' applied to them as well.
Please would someone help with a name - I am a bit embarrassed not to know this plant which is such a common annual in my home country.
V2 is just to show you the structure - not a great picture.
Hope you like it and thanks for all the CC's on yesterdays pano. A
