I was watching on the 'Yesterday' TV channel last weekend a documentary about King Ludwig II of Bavaria. It prompted me to re-process some images I took on my holiday to Bavaria in April 2013, when a coach outing took us to Hohenschwangau, and where we visited this famous castle King Ludwig had built overlooking the village. Been rather busy this last few days, hence lack of attendance on EPZ, but now got around to uploading 😬
It's quite a steep climb from the village up to the castle, but you can take a horse and carriage ride up there (as I did). V1 was taken looking up from the dropping off point to the castle entrance on the left of that image. Having toured the castle's interior, the visitor should make sure they take the gentle walk up to the Marienbrücke (Mary's Bridge), which spans the Pöllat Gorge. It was from this bridge that King Ludwig II admired his dream castle. The lead image is the view that you're faced with. V2 was taken from the bridge and looking directly down into the Gorge. About halfway along the path between the castle and the bridge, there's a viewpoint which offers a great panoramic view overlooking the village below (V3) with Schloss Hohenschwangau in the background, the childhood residence of King Ludwig and built by his father, King Maximilian II. V4 is from down in the village looking up towards Neuschwanstein castle. Just a pity photography wasn’t allowed inside the castle, as it's beautiful.
It was rather strange that here around the village and the castle was the only place where there was any snow, there was no sign of it anywhere else during the whole holiday!
