SCOTT - All this is mine!

By chrisevans
After months and months of me asking, building maintenance technician Scott final put himself infront of my camera. I love location portraits, it's a real opportunity to put some relevant context into a portrait which normally helps tell the story of the sitter. All location photography is fraught with problems and to make matters worse for us I decided to shoot Scott up on the roof of our building where the wind rules with an unforgiving hand. At 7am with my D800 I defaulted to my single SB900 speedlight and used the expansive location to break out my gorgeous lens the 14-24mm, all second hand kit.
Scott's late arrival meant we missed the sun's pre rise so shooting directly into a cloudless sky meant stopping the lens right down and setting the sb900 to maximum power. We just managed to balance out the exposure. The cameras white balance rather than being set to 'flash' was set to full cloud which would give the shot a natural warm colour balance. Thanks Scott.

That's a long way up. Turned out well, even with the late start, wind etc.
