Sea Lions, Hanson Island, British Columbia

A large group of sea lions laze on rocks close to the location of the breaching humpback whale shown in my post of a couple of days ago. Many thanks to those who voted or commented on that picture or simply looked at that picture.

While larger males were strutting, bellowing or simply lazing, the 'king of the castle' air of this small animal on the top of one of the rocks took my fancy. (Not to anthropomorphise too much!)

An ISO setting of 5,000 was needed to enable both the fast shutter speed necessary on a moving boat and the depth of field required to depict the distant mountains with reasonable clarity. Some correction (in Lightroom) was necessary but I think - hope! - the result is not too garish.

Thanks for your comment, Jacob. Those mountains looked even more impressive after fresh snow fell during the final days of my vacation on Vancouver Island. Yes indeed, the Kp performs very well especially in terms of image quality and I was more than happy with it's autofocus despite this being one of its weaker points. Although I took a little while to adjust to the new controls now the camera is a pleasure to use.
