Serenity 2

This is the second upload (2 versions, near and far again) of a small series of pictures of the Serenity sculpture by Brendon Murless, a contemporary figurative sculptor who exhibited it in 2019 at the Sir Harold Hillier “Art In The Garden” event.

Originally carved in wood, this is a limited-edition cold cast from a mould taken of the original.

This explains the unusual shape of the piece, which you can see in the version.

Brendon says, “Taking inspiration from the human form and beauty within nature, my work explores the body in different forms, poses and materials, emphasising the integral connection between humans and nature”.

I do like to see figurative sculptural representations of the human form which can convey as much, or in this case, more, emotion than abstracts. The lead here shows more of the texture of the original wood (which I didn't really notice before). The colour is superb and the sculpture's placement well complements his philosophy qupted above.

The cracks on the face and the cleft head all makes sense now. They chose a great colour to paint them with, which makes them stand-out from the other greenery.
