I like this a lot... very calm, and I like the subtle reflection of warm colour in the water. The square crop, and the positioning of both the sun and the horizon on centre lines, mean there are no tensions in the composition... everything is static, calm, balanced, there's nothing to break the mood. It's almost abstract, and no, it doesn't need a boat with a sail, or some other photographic platitude. It looks good just as it is.
If you had cropped it a bit less severely... showing more of the vast expanse of sea... even though the sun would have been a bit smaller in the frame I think it would still have worked.

I'm with Alan 100% on this...

It has something of the flavour of some of his own landscape work, and that's a considerable compliment. The colours are calm and welcoming, and the slight jaggedness of sun and sea shows that it's not static. Wind ruffles the sea, the sun is a nuclear cauldron.

Technical quality isn't relevant: and might well be compromised as much by heat haze and atmospheric disturbance as magnification.

Repost in the main gallery and you could gain a good few votes, I reckon.

Tried a mod, softer, warmer, and more sky, less water.
