Shades of Church Street

By DaveRyder
The Shades Hotel - straight out of a Hitchcock movie.

One time Hotel, then a wine bar now derelict.
The council has recently bought this grade 2 listed building so hopefully will be restored and to some put to use. Potentially as a training facility.

Colour in V1 and 2 to 4 are the figures hidden by the tarpaulin.

Always a shame to see a grand old building go to rack and ruin. Generally they cost more to restore than demolish and start over. I'm not sure The Shades was a good name for a hotel - to close to Shady.

The art work indicates it did have a glory day.
From the ex-Shades Hotel images, together with all of the recent pictures shown, Church Street must have a very fine street in its heyday.

What a beautiful building, I do hope the restoration project allows it to keep its integrity.

What beautiful glazed figures, no wonder they have them covered!

Do hope the restoration happens, would be dreadful to demolish this building.

You are doing a great job capturing all of these Dave.
