Very well exposed Kate and great Shadows, it does look like the device used for opening lock gates! But not sure.

I asm not really sure, but I can't see why people would go down to the dockside to ring out their washing .
Kate it looks like a wench not the female type.The type to haul in small boats. Its a lovely interesting shotSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile
