Shadows on the dance floor

By dudler
Rather than murder...

I had a long and busy day on Thursday - a joint day's photography with Joceline and Chris (chrism8), and then a swift visit to a local music venue to photograph Venus Rising. BEing tired after getting up at six in the morning, I didn't stay for the headliners.

Left to right, Mike Insley (lead guitar), Sheena Bratt (guitar and vocals), Steve lewis (bass) and Dave Coomer (drums).. I don't know who the dancers were, but they provided my Saturday Shadows for this week...

Robin 2 seems to be a busy place, though it was far from full on Thursday. But there are different bands on most nights: I should go more often...

Yes, you should, John, and take more ‘being there’ pictures like this one. The inclusion of the table and half empty glass is a nice extra touch.

Great image for the lighting along John, never a easy shot in case like this.

I feel it comes over better without the milling crowd! You get the feeling a little sad, that what looks a good band can only get two people dancing. Good shadows even although they are green!

The lights have been very well captured here, John and casting excellent shadows to photograph.

More people in the band than on the dance floor... Never a good sign. Wink

Ju, it was quite loud at times. And the speaker stacks are just to either side of the stage, where I stood to get close-up shots of the lead guitarist and the drummer...

I've known worse, though: one concert when I was young (Robin Trower, as I recall) was just right when I put my fingers in my ears, so that the sound level didn't make my eardrums distort.

Modern led lights can be a nightmare for live gig photography, especially the ones that are constantly changing colour...just one more thing to put up with for us poor photographers.Wink
