This may be The Photograph That Should Not Exist...

I visited the Shard last week, while I was in London. I took a variety of pictures. Basically, it's just another glass hi-tech building, with some funny angles built in.

But walking round the bottom, there were some nice shadows being cast by some of the add-on bits of metal. And one of the security guards (I assume) wandering aruond.

No-one asked me what I was doing, or tried to stop me taking pictures, as I've rather gathered people often do around such buildings. Either the security companies have mugged up on British law, and know they can't stop photography in public places, or maybe I just look respectable.

Or was it that I was standing terribly close to the entrance of the Guy's Hospital sexual health clinic?

I suppose I'll never know.

Two great images, the chap in the fluorescent jacket looks like he is taking down the particulars of the shadow in question....

Think you caught him sneaking off to message his friends on facebook! Great shadow's of the design of the shard fighting against the lines of the brickwork. I should imagine you looked very respectable standing by the sexual health clinic!Blush

V1 - perfect balance, there's tension as he pulls away from the vertical; plus great use of light. Superb.

So many photographs (landscapes, still life, birds, flowers, portraits... ) essentially replicate painting tradition. This sort of image is uniquely photographic. The quirky moment frozen. Keep coming back to it.

Personally I would have waited until that bloody waistcoat had moved away .............. I HATE hi-viz jackets - they are turning the world yellow

Roy -

I had to have it in there. Pictorially. Opportunistically (shadows change fast!) And morally.

Partly, this is a *$%# you aimed at the overbearing security industry. I was quite expecting to have to call on the bulery, and point out the legalities, politely, while offering my business card...

Thank you for the UA!

Lillian -

Maybe you were where my guard was, shooting the netrance to the SH clinic (where I stood to take my shot), and he was edgy about being seen there?
