Shattered

By EddieAC
This is the third capture of a glass falling onto a hard tile that I caught and it shows a bit more of the destruction that occurs when glass shatters.

I didn't like this one as much as the bottom left of the frame is a bit busy with all the fragments but it shows all the tiny fragments that fly off when this happens.

I decided to upload two versions to add to this one.

I always felt that these looked better in black and white and as the images were basically monochrome anyway I removed all colour in the Raw editor but with the first version I decided to throw both the saturation and the vibrance sliders to the maximum. I decided that the resulting colour could represent the stress that is occurring all over the glass as it is shattering.

The second version shows just how unlucky I was with one I missed. I had used mirror lock up and then fired the exposure just a fraction of a second too early and the base of the glass seems to be just about touching the black base that I used. A tenth, a hundredth or even a thousand of a second later could have yielded a different result but this version represents to me the very last moment that this wine glass was whole. As lucky as I got with the other exposures I just got really unlucky with this one Smile
