Silent Observer

By woolybill1
Our visit to the Baltic centre with our French visitors was the first time I had been to the viewing platform since taking the Watching You sequence in early March. Imagine my surprise to find the isolated Gormley figure (from the installation Domain Field) still there, silent and alert as ever. I find it difficult to understand how people can seemingly ignore the figure while inspecting even the smallest of small print in detail.

There were dozens of them in the Baltic a few years back and all of them were made from human beings who had , had plaster casts made of their bodies. They must have kept one.
Like the difference between the person and model.

GM Bill I like this plenty of interest and the statue in the foreground gives it real depth. Ask Moira what I would like to crop out Wink

What a very unusual sculpture. Though it is metal, it seems transparent - great composition, the "live" person complements this sculpture. Well seen,

Believe you me, standing in the middle of a vast hall amid hundreds of these figures of all shapes and sizes you could really imagine that you could hear them breathing.

Nice composition Bill, she's definately avoiding the sculpture,

Wonderful shot; great juxtaposition of the two figures. The one in the front seems to be a rather prickly character.

Most people can't see the wood for the trees, that is of course unless it hits them in the face.
Well observed Bill and a great shot.
That figure is fascinating.

Good contrast with the real/unreal here.As you point out,she is ignoring him,but he could be watching her.I wonder too,how often the do not touch sign on the floor is ignored.A good detailed capture Bill. Happy to be 30.

One of the artists who creates these work for Gormley is situated in the same building as me ... you ought to see the next set which are going for exhibition out of the UK ... quite different in many ways to his usual style .. certainly a lot harsher in pose.

Nice shot tho.

I like this shot a lot Bill. A well observed piece of candid work. The 'almost' black and white treatment also works well in the shot. John
