Silly Sunday

By dudler
Why is this silly?

Because I recently moved my mobile 'phone (and Mrs Dudler's) from the company I used to work through to a personal contract. (At one time, to do the work that I do I had to have a company to work through, as none of the organisations I work for would put an individual on the payroll: that has recently changed, so the company is no longer needed and I wound it up.)

I didn't intend to change anything except the account I paid for the contract from. However, Vodafone told me I had to have a new contract. And new SIM cards (the pictures shows the old cards, and the stuff you need to change them in our 'phones). There would be no change in the terms, they said.

However, a month-by-month contract has become a 12-month contract. The data allowance has halved. And far from just swapping the SIM cards, it was swap the SIM cards and wait several hours.

It could have been so easy: it wasn't. And when things don't work, you end up swapping old and new cards a time or two. You try each card in each 'phone. You need tweezers to get the card out of a Microsoft 'phone, and a needle to get one out of an iPhone 4. You might consider using both on a negligent salesperson (everyone else at Vodafone has been very helpful: but the system is a bit process-heavy).

To add to the fun, my lens adaptor for using my Alpha and Minolta lenses on my E-mount bodies seems to be having a bit of a breakdown... Hence an elderly Russian lens on a purely-manual adaptor...

The main tool needed John, is patience. If that fails, switch to Virgin!

.. and of course there's the waste. Landfills must be full of old tech.
At least you understand what you are doing. My daughters despair of me ever learning anything about such things.

Kate - if it works, keep it!

And ask to move to a SIM-only contract... Far cheaper than having a 'free' upgrade each year.

They always get us one way or another. I've heard Canada has the most expensive cell rates in the world.

Just go and have a lie down, dear, and Matron will bring you a nice cup of tea and a biscuit...

Sadly, Mrs Dudler merely told me off for messing up her 'phone.

On the plus side, that Cabin lightbox seems to be very good for still lifes. I must part with a few quid to the preset owner, and keep it!

Never mind the trouble John, now you have the power! What are you going to do with it? Smile
