This is strange. I have been away for a LONG time and decided to drop in on Annette -- just to find that she too has been off-site a long time, thinking many of the same things I have been mulling over.
This is all very interesting to me but probably nobody else.
Anyway -- regarding this shot.
I LOVE it. It's a nice, casual slice-of-life shot. Gotta love the socks and that red plaid shirt. Nice use of DOF here, Annette. I'm glad I broke my self-imposed silence and stumbled upon this image.
By the way -- I just renewed my e2 membership but I have no idea how much one pound sterling is worth in American dollars. Can't wait to see my VISA bill.

Welcome back Annette, when I first joined the site I thought it was important to get lots of votes on my images and if I did not I thought it a failure, I have since realized you get a lot of votes not because your image is a success but because you give a lot of votes, I have since changed my view and my approach and I now upload what pleases me and if it pleases others its a bonus if it does not then there is no drama.
What I am trying to say is do what pleases YOU and have fun doing it.

Nice to see back again after almost 2 months away, Annette.
I agree that votes are not that important and now I seldom leave voting on but do so on the odd occasion just out of curiosity.
And I too would echo Gary's remarks.
So enjoy the site in your own way and I am sure it always be a pleasure to view what you post irrespective of content or subject matter.
And that's a very nice portrait of this chap relaxing and I too want those socks......

Great composition and use of DOF, lovely, natural portrait of this gent but it is definitely the the socks that steal the show.

Absolutely delightful. Older men express themselves in their socks... They could be a competing focal point here but they complement the face rather well.

Welcome back Annette - I didn't think you'd give a monkey's curse about votes anyway.
I welcome diversity because it makes me think out of the box and allows us to have fun with our cameras
and creativity skills and maybe keep dementia away from our door.
Anyway I must say I love those socks and anybody who wears them can't be a fuddy duddy!
