Since the beginning of time there has been water in Reeuwijk

By kuipje
Reeuwijk originated as medieval peat extraction, and was first mentioned in 1248. Relatively late, because other cores in the area were created earlier. The area experienced a period of prosperity from the 18th century when the peat bog was dredged and dried, to be used as peat in the Gouda industry. This is how the Reeuwijkse Plassen were created.
