Many thanks indeed to Jeff and Alfie for their UAs yesterday for "Sketches 5", and to everyone else who voted and commented or just looked.

Today's upload is another taken from inside the Great Mosque of Córdoba, La Mezquita. When people Google "La Mezquita" this is the sort of image that usually pops up on screen, with Moorish architecture being very much in evidence. However, while it is certainly true to say that most of the interior displays a Moorish influence there is also a Christian element which followed the Christian invasion of Córdoba in 1236, thus bringing to an end a period of Islamic rule which stretched back some 500 years. Indeed, to give the mosque its 'Sunday name', it is more properly referred to as the Mosque–Cathedral of Córdoba, with only Christians being permitted to worship in it - much to the chagrin of Spanish Muslims. But that's another story .....
