Sketching away in Arezzo

By EveLine1
This scene is so Italian with the man dedicated to his artistic endeavor in a striped t-shirt in front of an antique shop on a historic square.. I just couldn't resist.

I love that shop, there will be gems galore inside, but in the meantime I'll watch the man (the owner?) who is happily sketching between customers.

Such a gentle, measured, human pace of life; no rushing, no deadlines, not a care in the world. Without Arezzo, who knows how we would designate the notes of the musical scale! For there a thousand years a monk and scholar named Guido chose the sequence Ut - re -mi etc as the basis of our modern staff notation, all very measured and scholarly as befits such a location . . . . The shopkeeper could be a modern Guido . . .

Thanks a million for your comments Pam and Bil! A special thanks to Bill for your erudite comment on Guido d'Arezzo!!
I had no idea.. I remember learning the do-re-mi etc song (starting with doe, a dear..) at school Next time I visit Arezzo I will be looking at it with a different eye Wink!

Best wishes
Viola
