Skimming the Surface

A recent shot captured in low evening light while out birding at my favourite haunt.

Had spotted this juvenile male Mallard flying in low over the creek giving me just enough time to zoom in, track in my viewfinder, lock on, compose, pan and grab a shot as it skimmed the surface past me ..... one of the shots of the day it turned out to be too. A good flight pose with ample plumage detail, the blue speculum really making the shot. Well worth the wait into the late evening .....

Viewing large looks better.
