Skirt in the air.

By xwang
I'm not so sure about the photo. It was taken outside Victoria centre in Nottingham last week. It was a hot sunny afternoon, I saw this wicker skirt in a big flower pot, looked very nice and it seemed that the weather was so hot, even the skirt wants to escape..Grin The light was very strong, I couldn't work out in single photo, I tried HDR, but it looked too "noisy", so this is B&W HDR. Thanks for looking.

A great image depicting this rather creative and organic form of sculpture, which will look brilliant once it becomes weathered. We have quite a few similar sculptures dotted around large garden centres, which are made of hazel twigs, and they have already started to show signs of new life as the hazel begins to take root.

I'm not sure about this one either Jasmine as there are so many attention grabbing elements in the background and the sculpture itself is much more contrasty than the rest of the image. I like the sky but not the buildings and people as background so a crop, a bit of extension work and some cloning could deal with all of that. It does have potential though with some work so a vote for observation and potential. You have not enabled mods so that I can't post the idea I have for making this image more about the striking sculpture, but I will send it to you.

I like the pov, Jasmine, positioning the dress against the sky mostly. There are a few distractions, as Lynne points out, but simply cloning out the lamppost and 'To Let' sign would make quite a difference for me.

Some interesting comments from Lynne and Dave, Jasmine: a difficult subject to tackle but overall you have made a pretty good attempt. Perhaps standing a bit closer and trying to place most of the subject against the sky might overcome some points already raised, but (1) that might not have been possible and (2) the exaggerated POV might not work out.
Why not return at night a try flash.......I do that a lot with flowers as you know.

A great subject and I think you've got the best that could be got out of this difficult situation.
I suppose you could try colour-popping the dress - if you went with red I imagine the folks that sell 'Special K' cereal would be interested !

Thank you Barry. I've never thought of selective colour...Grin

this is great... slightly mysterious and abstract, really well framed and well shot too, I'd be really happy if this was mine Smile
