I've uploaded a quick mod for you: worked selectively on the sky leaving the trees untouched.
Removed digital noise which is apparent in your pic, then used levels to give a bit more depth and contrast and sharpened. Not a dramatic change but I think it gives a little more impact.

I think this one for the 'stops' mode. But you can't keep composition out of it I'm afraid! 
A good composition has an imbalance, not half and half (as you proabaly already know!)... and this is because... you chose which the majority of your picture has, light or dark... if it's mainly dark you go up a stop, and if it's mainly light, you go down a stop and that gets the camera to over or under expose thus equalling the exposure between the two contrasts.
I think! Just try the shot again and try with stops up and down... that's the lovely thing about digital... experiments are free!
