Sliced (a lenticular print)

This is an attempt at a 'lenticular' print, where two images are sliced, reassembled and printed together. The print is then scribed and folded into 90 degree ridges and mounted. The image changes from one to the other when viewed from the front and the sides, as I've tried to show in the composite above. When viewed centrally, the image needs to be interesting/ striking/ abstract to invite the viewer to look closer and discover the two images. There is quite a lot on the web on lenticular prints, as used to give some movement in postcards, children toys etc and also in painting. There is a great example near Copenhagen https://www.kongernessamling.dk/en/rosenborg/object/double-portrait/ I was inspired to try this at home by a brilliant shot by John Duder (dudler) which he will post. It has taken a few trials to get this working and there are several improvements which will come with more practice. If there is interest I'll write up a few notes in a blog.

Interesting, though I find here that the blue is such a brilliant graphic image that it rather dominates the more natural but more mundane shot of the squashes.

Thanks Norm for your comment! I was looking for images to try with the technique so chose something fairly graphic, by inverting the tone curve for the second image. It works best with matte paper, as the reflections are hard to suppress with lustre, so I increased vibrance, particularly on the inverted image. It is more balanced on the actual print. I'm very interested to hear of suggestions for what might work well with the technique. It was really good fun working this out!

Coming next week, the folded BlackBeauty - this is a very interesting idea, and one that I'd never have thought of or tried myself. I'm indebted to Andy for suggesting it, and doing the heavy lifting...
