Slowish Motion

By Irishkate
Today something else I've been trying to learn - long exposures.
This is for marktc who sent me details and settings to practise with.
Haven't been to a pier to attempt images like his, but this is my attempt from
a woodland walk. I've got a mono version also as I always need mono images for CC.
However back to yesterday's Beech Hedge Blur for which I appreciate all your vs & cs.
Delighted almost all of you liked what I was trying to achieve and special thanks to Richard
(dickpics) for his User Award and to MalcolmM who suggested a crop from top
where some light was filtering through. This was exactly the kind of advice I needed.
I must admit to really liking the image myself since it was captured in camera.
The failed attempts are great for playing around with and adding textures.
Thank you all for help and advice.

Super shot Kate, you have captured the movement of the water very well, from the glassy smooth water at the top to the frantic white water in the drop... Smashing, keep it up! As for the mono, perhaps a little less harsh on the contrast as a slight improvement?

I like the motion you have caught with the 1/4sec, Kate.... it looks very natural. More the image you see in real life than totally frozen, but a second or so less than the milky stuff. The green glow of the moss/lichen makes v1 the winner for me.

Nice one Kate - good blurring without completely turning the water to milk.

I like this image, Kate - I always like to see water movement!
I assume you used a tripod - the advantage of this is that you can experiment
with a variety of shutter speeds - I have used a range Neutral Density filters
to achieve a range of results whilst keeping camera settings(ISO and Aperture - using Aperture Priority) the same.
Great work!SmileSmileSmile

Nice work on the water. There seems to be some pixelation going on in the colored areas on the tops of the rocks. That said, I like the color version better. The mono is just a bit too contrasty for me.

Far better than a milky mess Kate.

I am so pleased to see that you're extending your photographic boundaries, this is a superb photograph which works equally as well in colour or monochrome
