Slugfest

A slug damaged Fly Agaric, Amanita muscaria from my latest trip to a local woodland.

I had a go at the stacking process again as I really wanted to get the 'hole' and the stem beyond in focus. It worked ok, this image is 12 frames stacked, think I could have done with a couple more tbh, the learning curve is quite steep Sad

Small diffuser used to stop the harshest light with a gold reflector...ok, it's a small piece of old gold card...to push some light into the hole.

Raw files converted in lightroom, stacked and finished in Photoshop.

Fab. Just goes to show, it doesn't have to be a perfect specimen.
I went on a macro workshop last year where stacking was a chunk of it. Our instructor recommended F5.6-F8. Maybe if you had had a slightly smaller aperture you could have got away with fewer shots?? It's not easy. There have been some extreme macro shots of insects on here this year which were breathtaking in their detail and technical skill. It's all about practice I guess. Isn't everything in photography?Smile

Great image Janet. I am no expert on stacking, but my idea is to choose your lens sweet spot and just take as many shots as necessary. No amount of images with lens defraction is going to give the best image quality.
